This page describes how to set the callerid on outbound calls to internal and external destinations.
Callerid on internal calls
An internal call is when a call is made from a telephone registered with the system to a number within it's own customer. By default a telephone's internal callerid is it's own number. The rest of this example is about setting the number to be shorter using a feature code. If you don't need the callerid to be shorter then you can skip to "Callerid on external calls".
- Using the top-right selection box ensure you're working as the customer your telephone is in.
- If you haven't already, create a feature code which routes to your telephone.
- Click on Devices and numbers » Devices and accounts » Telephone lines and edit your telephone.
- In the "Callerid on internal calls" field select the feature code which routes to this telephone.
- Save the telephone line.
- Make a call from your telephone to another telephone within the same customer. The receiving telephone should see the feature code as the calling number.
Callerid on external calls
An external call is when a call is made to a number in a different customer or on the PSTN. By default a telephone's external callerid is "Unknown" and the receiving party will not get any calling number.
- If you haven't already, add a number to your customer. Ensure it's visible in your customers under Devices and numbers » Numbers » Numbers.
- Click on Devices and numbers » Devices and accounts » Telephone lines and edit your telephone.
- In the "Callerid on external calls" field select a number that you've added to this customer.
- Note the "Withhold callerid" field. If this is set to "Yes" then the call will be made with a flag to say the calling number should not be displayed. This is used to hide the calling number from the final recipient but still have it available to network carriers. It is different from an "Unknown" number, which is when there is no number at all. Leave it as "No" for now.
- Save the telephone line.
- Make a call from your telephone to a PSTN number that you own. The receiving telephone should see the number that was set.
- Go back and set "Withhold callerid" to "Yes", save the telephone line, and call the PSTN number again.
