Most systems will not use regions, and this step can be ignored.
Regions allow you to have Asterisk machines in more than one geographical location, and customers can then route their calls through the closest set of machines, minimising call latency and potentially bandwidth costs. Telephony machines can be in more than one region, and can have different priorities, allowing failover between machines and regions. All customers are configured and administered on the central database.
To configure a new region
- Log in to the Enswitch web interface.
- Create any Asterisk machines as needed.
- Go to System » Regions.
- Click the "New" button.
- Enter the following:
- The name of the region.
- Optionally a description.
- Click the "Save" button.
- Click the "Set Asterisk machines used" link.
- Click on each Asterisk machine in turn, set its priority for this region, then save it. Calls will be distributed among the highest priority Asterisk machines available to take calls.
Please note that regions do not affect calls made using remote access accounts.
